Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Estuary Institute?
The Estuary Institute offers interdisciplinary community-based programming and education in the humanities, sciences, and fine arts for lifelong learners. Our programming includes synchronous courses and interactive workshops delivered online.
How do you teach online?
All our sessions are taught synchronously online over Zoom. We do not offer pre-recorded lessons.
Can I get a recording of a session I missed?
We do not record any of our classes to allow for greater trust, safety, and privacy in live classroom discussions. We also feel this allows instructors to have greater autonomy over their intellectual property and labour.
How do you pay your instructors?
We offer all of our instructors a generous revenue share to allow for greater autonomy and ownership over their intellectual labour. After tax and online transaction fees, instructors receive 70% of all revenue generated from their courses. 30% goes to The Estuary Institute for operational and admin costs.
Do you offer any scholarships or funding?
We don't currently offer scholarships but we are in the process of securing funds to ensure subsidized spots on all our offerings. Our aim is to make our offerings as accessible and sustainable as possible. If you're interested in partnering with us to sponsor scholarships, please email us at team@estuaryinstitute.com.
I'd like to teach for The Estuary. How can I get involved?
Thank you for your interest. Please email us at team@estuaryinstitute.com or fill out this form.
What is your refund policy?
To cancel, please inform us at least 7 days in advance of the first session for a full refund. Students who withdraw after that point and before the second session (if the offering has more than one session) are entitled to a full course credit. Please email us at team@estuaryinstitute.com for cancellation requests.
